Doncaster East Electricians want you to implement these energy saving tips

Victoria residents are in for a nasty surprise when it comes to paying for power. Ever since the region’s Hazelwood power station shut down, climate pollution has decreased by a tenth, but the Australian Energy Market Commission believes it will lead to a 15.9% increase in retail energy prices compared to last year. This could not come at a worse time, as the country is heading into winter, which is a period where electricity consumption usually increases. Thankfully we have some Doncaster East Electrician approved advice on how you can save power and reduce your energy bills.

1. Choose a reverse cycle air conditioner

It goes without saying that having air conditioning is a must in every Australian home. That doesn’t mean you have to resign yourself to high bills to stay comfortable. A reverse cycle air conditioner doesn’t directly heat air, it extracts it from the outside before condensing and dispensing it in your home. It also uses two thirds less electricity than conventional air conditioning units.

2. Keep your hands and feet warm

Our hands and feet are extremities that feel cold sooner than the rest of our body, and much more intensely. You can dramatically reduce your heating costs by keeping these parts of your body covered up and warmed using socks, hats, heating pads or hot water bottles.

3. Go mobile – or offline

When in need of entertainment, choose smaller and less power-intensive devices such as tablets and smartphones for gaming and television watching purposes. Also, consider dropping the screens altogether and reading books or playing board games as a pastime.

4. Use natural light

Your home needs to use as much natural light as it can. Take a walk around your home to see if there are any large trees or plants obstructing you from enjoying the direct sunlight. Removing these can instantly brighten a room and remove the need for 24/7 artificial lighting.

5. Ditch the dryer

If you’re going to fork out cash for your home to be heated, you might as well get the most out of the heat being produced as possible. Instead of running your tumble dryer, why not lay out clothing on racks in the rooms being heated? It will dry slower but will save you plenty.

Every resident of Victoria should be using power responsibly. It will help prevent blackouts and lower your monthly bills at the same time! Here's what few Doncaster East electricians advise you to do to reduce your consumption.
